Nigeria MTN XtraByte and MTN XtraTime allow subscribers borrow data and airtime on credit when they run out of data and call card and pay back on their next recharge. the service are available to ONLY Prepaid customers that are eligible for the service.
This make sure that MTN customers can now make that important call and surf the web, but you must be eligible for this service.
How to check if you eligible for the service?
You can check if you are eligible for XtraByte and XtraTime service by;
Dialling *606# and clicking ’My Account’ and selecting 1 to ‘Check eligibility’.
Sending SMS keyword: STATUS to 606
Dialling 606 then follow the voice prompt to confirm if you are eligible or not.
To be eligible for XtraByte service, you MUST:
1.Be a Prepaid customer
2. Have registered your number.
3. Have been on the MTN network for more than 3 months
4. Have spent at least N200 monthly for 3 months
5. Have between N0 and N75 in your main account
6. Paid up any outstanding XtraByte and MTN XtraTime loan request
Please note: You will be charged a service fee of 15.36% on ALL lending bands EXCEPT the N25 lending band, which charges 20.48% service fee
Example: if you request for 25MB that ordinarily costs N50, you will be credited with the data value (25MB) BUT your main account will be in debit of -N57.68 i.e. N50 bundle fee + N7.68 service fee. This implies that you are to pay back N57.68 on your next recharge.

On the other hand via MTN XtraTime: If you request for N25, a service fee of N5.12 (20.48% of N25) will be deducted and you will be credited with N19.88 in your XtraTime account BUT your main account will be debited with N25, i.e. you main account will be in –N25. This implies that you are to pay back N25 on your next recharge.
How to borrow MTN Data via *606# Menu:
1.subscribers should simply Dial *606# and select XtraByte.
2. It will display all the data bundles that you can borrow.
3. Then select your preferred data plan from the list.
How to borrow MTN Data via 606 IVR:
MTN subscribers should simply dial 606 and the system will play an announcement for you to select your preferred language, either English, Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba.
2. Upon selecting your preferred language, you will be required to select either XtraTime or XtraByte.
3. Once you select XtraByte, the system will then play out all the data amount that you can borrow.
4. Then select your preferred data plan from the list.
How can I check my XtraByte account balance?
You can check your XtraByte account balance in the following ways;
From the *606# menu, select ‘My Account’ then select ‘2’ to view your account balance.
From 606 IVR menu: Simply dial 606, follow the voice prompt, press 5 and your account balance will be sent to you in an SMS.
From SMS: Text Balance to 606
How to Borrow Airtime via *606# Menu:
MTN Customers can now borrow recharge card by following the steps below.
1. Dial *606# and select XtraTime
2. You can then select your preferred amount from the list
3. After selecting your preferred amount, the system will then send you a message with the amount you are about to borrow and the applicable service fee for you to confirm the transaction.
4. Once you confirm your transaction, the system will deduct the service fee, credit your XtraTime account with the remaining airtime balance and send you a successful notification message.
How to borrow MTN Airtime via 606 IVR:
1. Dial 606 and the system will play an announcement for you to select your preferred language, either English, Igbo Hausa or Yoruba.
2. Upon selecting your preferred language, you will be required to select either XtraTime or XtraByte.
3. Once you select XtraTime, the system will then play out all the airtime amount that you can borrow.
4. You can then select your preferred amount from the list
How can I check my XtraTime account balance?
You can check your XtraTime account balance in the following ways;
