In Nigeria, all major international banks have what is called a domiciliary account. A domiciliary account lets you receive funds in the form of foreign transfers and US dollar deposits in your local currency.
UBA domiciliary accounts allow individuals and businesses to receive and make payments in foreign currency. These accounts facilitate your international transactions and can be accessed through cash deposits, traveler’s cheques, or foreign currency cheque deposits. - Types of UBA domiciliary account
The United Bank of Africa (UBA) provides her customers with three different types of domiciliary accounts with their own unique features and document requirements which are:
- Freedom Dom Account: This is a domiciliary account that helps customers to receive foreign remittance directly into their account with no transaction limits. It requires zero balance before opening — which means that you don’t have to deposit any money before your account can be activated.
Note: customers cannot make transfers with this account. You can only access your money through in-branch cash withdrawals.

- Dom Advantage Account: This is a current or savings account designated into foreign currencies — Dollars, Pounds sterling, Euros etc and can be opened with a minimum balance of $100, €80, £70. The interest payable on an account must have a minimum of $1,000.00 or its equivalent in other currencies.

- Certified copy of your international passport, drivers license, National Identity card or voter’s card
- U–Care plus Domiciliary Account: This is a domiciliary account that is created for parents who want to save up money for children’s secondary or tertiary education abroad. It has a minimum opening balance of $100 or £70 or its equivalent and has a minimum operating balance of £350 with an interest rate or 0.1% payable on credit balance.

- Two passport photographs each of the parent and the child
- Valid identification or proof of the parent/guardian
- Proof of residence or Address verification of the parent/guardian

- Visit any UBA branch near you or go to the UBA official website “www.ubagroup.com” to get started.
- Make sure all the documents stated above are available before registration.
- Fill the account opening form, signature form and the reference form given to you by the bank agent.
- You would be asked to present 2 references who have used a current account with UBA or any other bank within the last 6 months.
- Submit all necessary documents and pay a minimum of $100 or the equivalent amount in other currencies.
- Once all your information and documents have been verified, your account would be activated in less than 72 hours.
